Choose which messages appear
Settings include command and bot filtering, viewer role filters, badges and emotes. These options control what the overlay displays; Twitch chat moderation is configured separately.
How to add Twitch chat to OBS, step by step
Create a Chat overlay
Sign in with Twitch, open Overlays in the dashboard and add Chat.
Pick a style
Adjust font, colors, background and how many messages stay on screen with a live preview.
Add a Browser source
In OBS: "+" → Browser → paste the URL. Set width and height to fit your chat area.
Test with a message
Send a message in your chat. You can change the style later without replacing the URL.

Chat as an OBS dock
You can also open chat as a dock inside OBS: Docks → Custom Browser Docks, paste the dock URL from the dashboard, click Apply and place the panel.
Chat is not showing
- The full URL is pasted and the source is visible.
- The source has a non-zero size and is not covered by other sources.
- The message is not filtered: commands and bots can be hidden.
- Use "Refresh cache of current page" in the source properties after changes.
Frequently asked questions
Is the chat overlay a chat bot?
The overlay displays messages in OBS. A bot answers commands and performs chat actions. You can use both together.
Can I hide commands?
Yes. Enable command filtering in the chat overlay settings. Bot messages can also be hidden.
How do I change the chat style?
Open the overlay settings, choose an available style and save. You can keep the existing Browser Source URL.
